The SPCA has recommended animal abuse charges against the Mountain View Conservation Centre, multi-millionaire Gordon Blankstein's private zoo, after the deaths of three giraffes during the SPCA investigation of the zoo. The investigation was originally begun after more than 30 staff from the Mountain View Conservation Centre came forward with allegations (corroborated with graphic photographs and video) of more than 50 cases of animal abuse and neglect at the zoo. The latest giraffe to die succumbed as a result of an extremely overgrown hoof. The SPCA had given Gordon Blankstein's zoo an order to trim the hoof last November, which the zoo ignored. The giraffe died months later as a result of the tremendously overgrown hoof.
